Here we are in our 15th installment of Cocktail Confessions – our first in 2015 – where we track down industry movers and shakers, sometimes bribe them with cocktails and get their take on the topics of the day. In this installment, we feature Jason Butterfield of Cushman & Wakefield/NorthMarq.

Questions you’d like to see asked? Leave them in the comments section below.

What advice have you been given that has proven most valuable in your career?
First, I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by wonderful people. People that care, that are passionate, and strive for success. They taught me that you have one element that you can control and that is your reputation. That starts with integrity, commitment, accountability, responsibility and communication. With that foundation the next step is to challenge yourself to improve by setting high expectations and never giving up.

What habits have your formed that keep you energized and on top of your game?
Being involved in industry associations keeps me on my toes and allows me to continuously connect with people to build new relationships. My family definitely keeps me agile, and along with working out and playing hockey regularly, it all seems to refresh the batteries and provide a great balance.

What pastime do you enjoy during the summer months?
There is nothing more satisfying than spending quality family time. I take the opportunity to do that in our gardens, at the lake or with friends. I also make an effort every summer to challenge myself with some sort of extreme event: hiking in Colorado, biking in Utah or competing in a local triathlon.

The Confession:  What choice of refreshment will you have at your next Happy Hour?
There would be no doubt that it will be Excelsior Brewery’s Bitteschlappe Brown Ale. If you haven’t been to the brewery, you are missing out. And I should mention that Excelsior is the No. 2 small town in America!
