Here we are in the next installment of Cocktail Confessions where we track down industry movers and shakers, sometimes bribe them with cocktails and get their take on the topics of the day. In this installment, we feature Christy Lewis who recently took on a new role at Opus.

Questions you’d like to see asked? Leave them in the comments section below.

As our industry has picked up from a dismal few years, is there one lesson that you can share that has proven most valuable in your career?
I have been fortunate to receive great pieces of advice throughout my career in business development. One came from a fellow broker back in my commercial furniture days: pay it forward. This advice has paid off and allowed me to build lifelong relationships. Keeping the needs of others at top of mind and having a willingness to help has often resulted in new business.

Two other pieces of advice that I carry with me daily from past colleagues are: Nothing is personal, it is just business – if someone says no today it does not mean no tomorrow. And never stand in an elevator next to someone and not speak. You will be surprised at who you can meet!

What habits have you formed that keep you energized and on top of your game?
Being involved and engaged in industry trade organizations allows me to continuously connect with people and build new relationships; NAIOP is a great example of this. I am a firm believer in ‘you get out of it what you put in to it.’

What pastime do you enjoy during the summer months?
Minnesota summers are too short, so I take advantage of being outdoors as much as I can – running, biking, relaxing at the beach, camping and boating.

The Confession: What choice of refreshment will you have at your next happy hour?
As I learn more about wine, I have found that I really enjoy a good Pinot Noir. Who can pass up a drink packed with antioxidants?! Getting to wine country is on my bucket list.
