Wendy EthenPersonal Profile (How did you get here):
I landed in commercial title largely because of my sense of adventure, I love closing deals. I was born in Minneapolis but grew up in Boca Raton, FL, as my father was a Northwest pilot who commuted to Minneapolis for work. I lived in Florida from age 6 through college at the University of Florida (Go Gators!), then moved back to Minneapolis where I was sent to work at a title company by a temp agency. My husband and I moved to New York where you had to be a lawyer to do closings. I got my law degree from Syracuse University and passed the New York bar three years later. We moved back to Minneapolis and I worked as a commercial closer. The opportunity presented itself to buy Guaranty and 9 years later we have grown from 5 to 14 employees and just expanded our offices on Nicollet Mall.ethen1

I spend a great deal of time managing the business but still maintain my workload as a closer. I can’t give it up. I love the adventure of a new deal and am always excited by untangling difficult ownership structures and multiple funding sources. On any given day, I’m attending a NAIOP committee meeting, closing a multifamily construction loan, reviewing our health insurance program, working through title issues with a coworker or consulting with one of our developer clients. I like the variety and thrive on challenge. Many of our clients have grown with us and I make sure I’m always available as a resource to them as they find new deals.

Outside of work
My husband and I have two teenage daughters who still love us and love to explore with us. We are all scuba divers and can’t get enough travel. ethen3We try to pick a new place every year. I have over 200 hours of flight training, love sky diving, roller coasters and am a pretty good shot. When we need to slow down, we retreat to our cabin on Balsam Lake.
