3 NAIOP Minnesota members win national Developing Leaders Awards
NAIOP will honor 16 commercial real estate industry professionals as winners of the association’s 2009 Developing Leaders Award. Among the winners are three NAIOP Minnesota members:
- Tony Carlson – Associate, Grandbridge Real Estate Capital
- Gabriel Philibert – Associate, First Commercial Bank
- Nils Snyder – Principal, Welsh Companies

Introductory note: I recently attended a three-day “Civic College” course sponsored by the Minnesota Association of Realtors and the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce. We received instruction from current and former elected officials, lobbyists, medial and PR professionals and campaign fundraising consultants. I gained valuable insight into life as a public servant, why business people should run for office, media relations and Minnesota’s voting demographics. Westwood Renewables awarded Minnesota’s largest solar project
Westwood Renewables, LLC will begin construction this month on Minnesota’s largest PV solar farm to date. The 400 kW Saint John’s Solar Farm will be constructed on site at Saint John’s Abbey and University in Collegeville, Minnesota and is four times larger than the current largest system in Minnesota. Minnesota has its second LEED Platinum building

The new corporate headquarters for Blattner Energy, Inc. is the second project in the state of MN to receive the highest level of LEED certification: Platinum. Aspiring for this high design standard required the design and construction team of Knutson Construction, URS Corporation and Studio Hive, and the owner, to analyze the feasibility, cost, and return on investment of numerous design and systems elements. The team’s fluid approach to the conventional design-build process yielded a highly tailored solution. The result is a building that can respond to the company’s growth, compliment their culture, enhance teamwork, and reinforce Blattner’s stewardship to the environment.
Blattner Energy Inc. is a renewable energy general contractor in Avon, Minnesota, delivering construction solutions throughout the United States and Canada. Completed in 2008, the 52,000 square foot corporate office building typifies Blattner’s leadership in setting high standards for the project in terms of (more…)
